We are delighted to share a few glimpses from yesterday’s educational visit of our Classes IX to XII students to CSIR–National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR–NML), Jamshedpur. The excursion was thoughtfully planned to connect classroom learning with real-world scientific applications and inspire young minds towards research and innovation.

The visit began with an orientation session introducing students to the history and research activities of CSIR–NML. They explored various advanced laboratories, including the Analytical & Applied Chemistry Laboratory, Conventional Laboratory, Creep Laboratory, and the Universal Testing Machine (UTM) facility, where they gained insights into material testing and scientific analysis.

Students also visited the engineering workshop to observe machines such as CNC, milling, shaper, and abrasive cutting machines, along with precision measuring instruments. At the Foundry, they learned about the complete metal casting process, from mould preparation to brass casting.

A major highlight of the visit was the E-waste Recycling and Urban Mining Facility, where students discovered innovative techniques used to recover valuable metals from discarded electronic devices and witnessed demonstrations of emerging technologies such as wireless charging and temperature sensing.

The interactive sessions with the scientists and technical experts were highly engaging and inspired students to appreciate the role of scientific research in industrial development, sustainability, and technological innovation.

The educational trip was a memorable and enriching experience that enhanced students’ scientific knowledge, curiosity, and analytical thinking. We sincerely thank the Director, scientists, technical staff, and the entire CSIR–NML team for their warm hospitality and invaluable guidance.

The students returned safely to school with new knowledge, unforgettable experiences, and renewed enthusiasm for science and innovation.
